Handmade soap photographed on white is a brown block. What sells it is what it’s made of — the lavender, the mango, the butter. And that called for a location shoot, not a studio.
A model session was running in the same house at the same time. Two productions at once, sharing the space and the daylight.
What had to be right
The true colour of each soap. A natural product is bought on the look of its ingredient, and a mango that comes out dull stops looking like mango.
A world per product: lavender, citrus, wood, stone. Every reference with its own still life, and all of them reading as one brand.
Shadow as part of the image. Without a cyclorama you don’t kill window light — you use it. The leaf shadows on the wall are a decision, not an accident.
Black packaging holding its relief against light, warm backgrounds.
How it was done
- The full kit was packed into a case before leaving, with no possibility of going back for anything.
- The set was built around the light the house already had and the surfaces it already offered, rather than imposing a studio set-up on a space that isn’t one.
- The two sessions were coordinated so they didn’t collide: product and models sharing the space and the hours of daylight.
What the brand got
Ten campaign still lifes in a single day, each product in its own environment and all in one visual language. A location shoot resolved like a studio shoot.
